This book is a tour-de-force that explores Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz's main works (Primero Sueño, Neptuno alegórico, Villancicos, loas and autos). Prof. Cortijo's analysis explores the many ways in which Sor Juana seeks to legitimize her role as a (female) intellectual and to construct in the process a personal and national identity.
