Join us for the 2026 Latin American Literature Graduate Research Panel: Nature and History, a space to hear graduate students from SPAN 294A-B present their exciting research on literature, nature, and history in Latin America and beyond. The panel will take place on Friday, March 13, from 2:00–4:00 pm, in the Spanish and Portuguese Library/Media Room, Phelps Hall (4th Floor).

The students of the 2-quarter Latin American Literature Research Seminar (SPAN 294A-B) will present their work:

  • Nadia Escalante Andrade: “Economía erótica interspecie y afectividad ambiental: La milpa yucateca”
  • Vanessa Estrada Saldana: “Lenguaje, silencio y carne: Violencia estructural y producción de cuerpos consumibles en Cadáver exquisito, La vegetariana y Barrigas
  • Víctor Hugo González: “Realidades híbridas en Kentukis de Samanta Schweblin: Deseo, vigilancia y naturaleza construida”
  • Lea Leal-Ramírez: “Dying for pearls in the 16th century: How abuse was deemed natural in the Indies.”
  • Sixiao Liu: “El espacio del duelo antiheróico: La naturaleza en la poesía de Gabriela Mistral y Yu Xiuhua (余秀华)”
