The Instituto Sor Juana, directed by Sara Poot Herrera of UCSB’s Department of Spanish and Portuguese, will celebrate its inauguration on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at 6:00 PM at the Mark Taper Auditorium of the Los Angeles Public Library.
The inaugural event will feature Susana Hernández Araico, distinguished scholar of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz and specialist in early modern Spanish and Latin American theater, as the invited speaker.
The Institute will be based at 1111 S. Broadway, Los Angeles, CA 90015, at the headquarters of the University of Guadalajara Foundation USA.
