The department is delighted to share that Distinguished Professor Antonio Cortijo Ocaña has been recognized with the 2025 International Award Ajuntament de la Nucia/Seu Universitària (City of La Nucia, University of Alicante, Spain) in the International Projection Category.

This award recognizes Professor Antonio Cortijo Ocaña for more than three decades of scholarship on Mediterranean classics. His studies and editions of authors from the Middle Ages to the 20th century—including Ramón Llull, Joan Fuster, and Salvador Espriu—have deepened understanding of the cultural, ideological, and religious history of the Crown of Aragon. His recent English translation of three complete poetry books by Espriu marks a major culmination of this work.

The award also acknowledges his vital role in promoting the international projection of the Seu Universitaria La Nucia (University of Alicante, La Nucia) through sustained participation in its academic events over the past twenty-five years.
