Contemporary Latin American literature
Julissa Pena earned her degree in Spanish and Latin American Studies from the University of Santa Barbara. Her areas of interest include: Contemporary Latin American literature and philosophy.
To understand the complexity of Latin America and its political structure she completed an extensive research on Gabriel Garcia Marquez's novel, Cien anos de soledad, a fictionalized exposure of Latin America's reality.
Furthermore, she enjoys reading short stories focused on social and human rights issues, such as: Elena Poniatowska's story, La noche de Tlatelolco and many more.
