Graduate students in our program have the opportunity to broaden their academic experience by pursuing interdisciplinary emphases in Applied Linguistics, European Medieval Studies, Feminist Studies, and Translation Studies. These optional emphases allow students to develop complementary skills and perspectives that enrich their doctoral work.
In addition to these emphases, UC Santa Barbara offers a certificate program designed to enhance graduate education. The Certificate in College and University Teaching (CCUT) is intended for doctoral students who wish to demonstrate advanced competence and experience in preparation for teaching at the university or college level. The certificate is awarded in conjunction with the Ph.D. upon completion of the program requirements. Official CCUT certificates are issued by the Office of the Registrar and are noted on the student's transcript.
To make changes to your degree plan, you must submit a completed and signed Change of Degree Status Petition to the Graduate Division. Please note that while interdisciplinary emphases and certificates do not appear on the diploma, they will be reflected on your official transcript.
