The Department of Spanish and Portuguese welcomes Visiting Professor Cristina Martínez-Carazo (UC Davis) and Fulbright Scholar Gabriel Linares-González (Universidad Autónoma Nacional de México)

Visiting Professor Cristina Martínez-Carazo (UC Davis) specializes in contemporary Spanish novels and film. She is currently working in two different areas: the dialectic between the Spanish novel and the Spanish Civil War and the reception of the film of Almodóvar. She is teaching a course about the Spanish novel in post-war Spain, SPA 175. In this class students examine a series of contemporary novels and their adaptation to film.

Gabriel Linares specializes in the poetry of the 19th and 20th centuries, specifically in the poetry of Borges and its relationship with English poetry. He is a Fulbright scholar at UC Santa Barbara and his current project deals with the relation between Borges and Ezra Pound. This quarter he is teaching Spanish 110A - Medieval Spanish Literature.
